Trinity County Draft Zoning Code
The County’s draft zoning code is out for public review. It is silent on data centers, detention centers and other heavy industries. That silence isn’t a good thing. The new zoning code states:
“17.30.020 Land Use Regulations for the Industrial Zone
D. Uses Not Listed. Uses not specifically listed in Table 17.30-1 (Allowed Uses and Permit Requirements for Industrial Zones) are prohibited, unless otherwise determined by the Community Development Director as an appropriate use for the identified zone. It is the discretion of the Community Development Director to determine what type of permit shall be required for any use not listed. [Source: NEW]” https://trinity2050.com/zoning-code-update.html
This would replace the existing code that says under 7.23.010 - General description.
“Subject to the provisions of Sections 17.23.160 and Chapter 17.30, none but the following uses, or uses which in the opinion of the planning commission are similar will be allowed (see Section 17.30.010).” https://library.municode.com/ca/trinity_county/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=TIT17ZO
A planning commission determination is made in a public meeting, with public notice, by a majority vote of five members. With this revision, the Community Development director can decide in the privacy of their office whether a use that is not on the list is prohibited or appropriate, and whether there will be public notice, public comment or environmental review.

Note: You don’t have to stay for the full session. Multiple opportunities will be available throughout each meeting to provide public comment.
Mountain Communities Healthcare District
No visible action has been taken by the District Board regarding multiple complaints of a toxic and discrimanatory work environment. The Board maintains that discussions are going on in closed session. It is hard to say if they are doing anything about this or just waiting until we all go away and the story falls out of the news cycle. Let’s not let that happen! Keep writing letters to the editor and keep attending meetings, if you can, on the first Wednesday of each month. Next meeting, Wednesday May 6, 8:30 am. Check the agenda a week before the meeting (April 29th) at https://www.mcmedical.org/board for the exact time and place. If there is nothing on the agenda about this issue, please come and speak during the public comment period.
